Favorite fish

What are your favorite fish to catch? Why?

“[Mahi-mahi] would be my favorite offshore,” Larissa answered. “They are fun to catch and beautiful when they come out of the water!” she reasoned.

Larissa added, “I also love bottom fishing because of the constant action of the bite, usually!”

Go-to fishing spots

Where are your go-to fishing spots?

One of Larissa's favorite places to fish is the dock in the back of her house. “But besides that, offshore on the boat 600-ish feet of water,” Larissa added.

Live bait vs. artificial lure

Live bait or artificial lure? Why?

"Live bait all day, not much of a lure gal," was Larissa's straightforward response when asked about her bait preferences.

Biggest catch

Biggest or heaviest fish that you’ve caught?

When asked about the biggest or heaviest fish she’s caught, Larissa told us about a swordfish she caught in Islamorada, Florida weighing more than 400 pounds. Swordfish can grow up to a maximum length of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches) and a weight of 1,430 pounds (650 kilograms)!

Fishing with family

How long have you been fishing?

Like many anglers, fishing is an activity that Larissa began with her family. In the backyard of her grandparents' home near Lake Okeechobee, she told us, she learned to fish when she was around four or five years old. Larissa used to go bluegill fishing with her father when she was younger.
