Every year, Texas sells nearly 4 million licenses. That's a lot of people who need to get their Texas fishing license renewed. This year, there's a new, convenient option. Anglers can now get their Texas fishing license digitally online. No more worrying about carrying a paper license – it's all on your phone.
If you plan to fish in any public waters in Texas, you need a valid Texas fishing license. This rule applies to both Texas residents and visitors. But there are some exceptions. Texas residents under 17 don't need a fishing license. Also, if you were born before January 1, 1931, you're exempt.
There are special rules for people with intellectual disabilities too. They can fish without a Texas fishing license in certain situations, like during therapy or when supervised by a licensed family member.
For out-of-state visitors, the rules are a bit different. Visitors under 17 don't need a license. If you're from Louisiana or Oklahoma and you're 65 or older, you might not need a Texas fishing license if you have the right license from your home state.
Remember, your Texas fishing license isn't just for catching fish. If you want to collect mussels, clams, or crayfish, you need a license with the right endorsements. And if you're after turtles or frogs, you'll need a hunting license.
Need more info on Texas fishing licenses, seasons, or rules? Check out the TPWD website or visit a local shop that sells licenses. Don't let an expired Texas fishing license keep you from enjoying the great outdoors this season!
