Anglers in Vermont will have the chance to cast their lines without a license on Saturday, June 8, as the state celebrates its annual Summer Free Fishing Day. The event coincides with the opening day of Vermont's regular bass season, which promises some of the best bass fishing in the northeast and runs through the end of November.

In addition to the statewide free fishing opportunity, the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station in Grand Isle will host the "Grand Isle Family Fishing Festival" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival caters to young and novice anglers, offering basic fishing instruction and the opportunity for children to catch large trout in the hatchery pond. Participants need no prior fishing experience, and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department will provide fishing rods, reels, and bait for use during the event.

The annual Summer Free Fishing Day allows both resident and nonresident anglers to enjoy Vermont's lakes and streams without the need for a fishing license. The event aims to encourage more people to experience the joys of fishing and appreciate the state's abundant aquatic resources.
