A 38-year-old man, Aaron Moreau, was arrested on May 23 for allegedly cheating in a bass fishing contest by placing lead weights in a fish he caught, according to a report by Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.

The incident occurred at Toledo Bend on May 17, during the Big Bass Splash tournament.

Tournament directors contacted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents after suspecting foul play.

Upon investigation, agents found that Moreau had inserted 2.59 pounds of lead weights into the fish, which he then used for weigh-in before fleeing the scene.

Moreau turned himself in to LDWF agents on May 23 and was taken to the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Fishing contest fraud carries a penalty of up to a $3,000 fine and one year in jail.
