A routine fishing excursion on Grenada Lake took an unexpected turn when three men discovered 38 stranded hounds treading water a mile offshore.

The canines, wearing expensive radio collars and white paint, had chased a deer into the lake during a fox hunt, becoming disoriented and unable to find their way back to shore.

Fishing guide Jordan Chrestman, along with Bob Gist and Brad Carlisle, immediately abandoned their outing to rescue the distressed animals.

The crew made two trips, first saving 27 dogs before returning for the remaining 11.

Gist recounted the challenging rescue, noting that some dogs initially resisted help but eventually became more cooperative as fatigue set in.

The hounds had been swimming for at least 45 minutes to an hour before their rescue, with Gist expressing concern that some may have drowned prior to their arrival.

Despite the owners' attempts to offer compensation, the rescuers declined, stating they were simply in the right place at the right time.

The incident highlights the potential dangers of hunting with dogs near large bodies of water and the importance of having proper rescue equipment on hand.

This heartwarming rescue serves as a reminder of the unexpected situations that can arise during outdoor activities and the quick thinking required to save lives.
